Talking Social Media in Calgary

I did it…I actually did a presentation without the aid of a PowerPoint deck!  This is something new for me.

My good friend Harley Shouldice, who is running in the upcoming city elections in the fall invited me out to share my experiences with a number of northwest Calgary business owners at their weekly luncheon at PGIB Chiati Cafe in Crowfoot Crossing.

Social Media and Social Networking is a marketing tool when used correctly can bring additional leads in your business and open the door into new opportunities.  The folks at PGIB were very open to the new ideas and the brains were engaged in new thoughts on how to use services such as Twitter, Facebook, Blogs and LinkedIn in their own business.

Has prime time come and gone for Social Media in small business here in Calgary?

I do not believe that it is too late for the average small business to engage social media and get into it right now, actually we haven’t really scratched the surface.  What about the time commitment?  When everything is set up and going, social media doesn’t take much time at all to do on a daily basis.  Leveraging services which broadcast your blog posts over Twitter, tie in your LinkedIn account to your blog and how the entire social media world hits all aspects of computing.

What is your business doing with regards to Social Media?

Here is my tip to you, don’t hesitate to get started, this is not a time for paralysis by analysis, it is time to start.  The members of the PGIB Crowchild chapter are now thinking about new ways to leverage the power of social media in their business and I am sure a number of them will have a new strategy tomorrow.  Realtors, healthcare practitioners, retail stores and those in marketing all have a story to tell, actually everyone in business has a story to tell.  If you have a story to tell then you have something to use to start your social media marketing.
