Looking forward or backwards

One of my key takeaways from my Heartland Tech Group (HTG) meetings last week in Orlando was around the concept of looking forward instead of looking back.  Have you ever noticed when you get on a thought pattern (forward thinking for me) lots of stuff just starts to appear which strengthens your thoughts and drive towards a particular goal.

This is what is happening around my forward thinking concept.  The idea was born from the HTG meetings last week, starting with our board meeting and moving throughout the entire week.  Yesterday I finished reading the Dr. Phil book I have been reading for the past few weeks and started on Jim Collin’s latest book “How The Mighty Fall” on my leg from Denver to Calgary yesterday.

For me, I have been stuck in the past for the past year, reflecting on my decision to leave IT Matters and all the limiting beliefs which paralyzed me for a while.  I know I have a great team with Bulletproof and we are going to do some awesome stuff however…being stuck in the past limits our own growth and the search for what we really want in life.

In our HTG meetings we have turned the corner this quarter from reflecting on our past quarter on how business was and changing our focus to how business is and also how business looks in the short and long-term.  It is critically important we look into the near future and also we need to look long-term, I would say 5 to 10 years out.  What does your life look like.

Do you know people who consistently reflect on what life was instead of looking of what life can become?  For me, these type of people drive me nuts.  It is funny that I have openly admitted that I was one of them for the majority of this year.  How I allowed past events or debates which stopped me from pushing forward with what I really wanted.

What is stopping you?  Is something from the past slowing you done?

Snap out of it, look to the future and chase your dreams.

Definitely looking forward. Realized a while back that to make things happen you need your strategic planning (forward thinking) forefront, then plan the details and execute them.

If you’ve had a tough year it is easy to look at your financial numbers and get stressed. But financials are rear-view mirrors. It is when things are bad that you need to really focus on the forward plan, and not the fear.
