This is something I would love to see, can we lobby the government to add three additional hours to each day? What will it take to change the standard 24 hour clock to a new 27 hour clock. Of course we can’t do this, the time were are given is the time we get, 24 hours or 168 hours per week. How we elect to work with this precious resource is totally up to us. No one controls how we use our time. Time is a non-renewal resource and if you think we have a fossil fuel shortage, think again, many of us have a time shortage.
Time and how I elect to invest in this time is something I have been working on for a while. What activities do I allow to steal from this precious allotment and what activities do I put off over and over again. This is something critical to me and I know to a number of my colleague. How do we elect to invest in our 24 hours per day?
What activities simply provide no value at all to you? Why do humans continue to do what robs this valuable resource? What do we have to do to become better leaders around our own schedules?
Technology sure as helped, however technology has also robbed us when it comes to how we elect to use our time. Social media puts us online around the clock, email alerts us when a new message is put into our mailbox and the telephone just rings when ever a colleague or friend wants to talk with us. All of these are technology tools which help and hinder us every day.
I have a stack of books in my home which I know I need to read, why do I procrastinate about reading them? Why is my home office continuously unorganized? What do I need to do now to become a better leader in the Calgary and Red Deer business community? What activities can I simply just through out and what activities can I purely focus on?
I wish I had the answer, does anyone out there have the magic pill?

This topic is near and dear to my heart. We unfortunately are only going to get 168 hours every week, so we better learn how to use them the best possible way. While I don’t claim to have the magic pill, I do know that there are enough hours for us to do what we need to do each week. If we get rid of the unproductive and non priority clutter from our schedules, we will all find plenty of time to not only do what we say is important, but to actually spend more time on those priorities. It is our failure to make priorities the real funnel for how we use our time that causes us to feel overwhelmed and always in chaos.
Great post and good question. We need to get control of life and our time if we want to leave any sort of meaningful legacy and make an impact with our 168 hours each week. And the time to start is now!
I had one friend who figured he could he could train himself to nearly go without sleep. He would reduce his sleep time by 1 minute per day with the only exception being the occasional power nap. He was down to 5.5 hours when I lost touch with him.
Did get him more hours in a day but it did get him more waking hours. Don’t think it would work for me though…. Cheers.
I wonder how effective this person was?
