I wasn’t planning a second post this week so soon, I also cut into my gym time because this video came into my Facebook page…I need to share it with everyone.
Texting while driving and reasons why not to do it. I feel for the young ladies in this scenario, the emergency workers, the young man who couldn’t open the door and the families. However what really got me was the little girl wondering why mommy and daddy won’t wake up, then watching it again, the dead baby really hit me. Having two kids of my own…this is a huge wake up call, because I have been guilty in the past of doing the exact same thing.
Technology is great, however…sometimes we simply need to turn it off!
All I can say is my habits of checking email at a red light or even having my blackberry on in the car or within reach is going to STOP. I never ever want to be the reason why a little girl wonders why their mommy and daddy won’t wake up.

Stuart,
Thanks for this video. I saw this last week and posted it to my safety blog http://safetyattitude.blogspot.com. In fact, just last week I was driving up the highway towards Red Deer from Calgary and was passed by three separate vehicles whose drivers were all texting and creeping across the line. Luckily, it’s a 4 Lane Hwy. Otherwise, somebody could have been hurt. Oh, and by the way, all three drivers past me while texting were also exceeding the speed limit substantially. Idiots.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am bad for checking my BB while driving, especially while stopped. I don’t want to be the reason anyone wonders why someone won’t wake up either. Never again.
Stuart, that was a real eye opener and horrible for all involved.
Last time my wife and I went to Vancouver, we encountered someone who was speeding past us in a construction zone. Later on, in the traffic jam, we were driving in another lane, and we saw the woman driving and texting on her blackberry.
She was an employee of Worksafe BC, driving a Worksafe BC car.
Anyway, that’s a horrible video and I hope no one experiences it in the future.
This is a major public safety issue and the laws need to be strengthened to discourage this idiocy. I think a snitch line should be instituted whereby people can call and report the licence plate of the offending texter (once they’ve safely pulled over, of course!).
