Are you marketing?

I had a great conversation with a colleague yesterday about the importance of marketing in your small business.  I wonder what the majority of us are doing today to market our business out there in the big wild world.  I am still shocked how many professionals sit back and complain about the economy, the impact that it is having on business and then don’t do anything about it.

Introducing another way to market

Today at 10 AM Mountain time, usually one hour after many of you receive this post via email.  Are you getting these posts via email?  If you would like to, simply sign up on the left side under the daily shot.  Back on topic!  I have decided to re-brand my “Small Business IT Radio” program that is very popular in the IT community and rename and refocus it on the Calgary and Red Deer business community under the name “Bulletproof Business Radio“, of course sponsored completely by “Bulletproof InfoTech”.

The focus of this program will be to bring savvy business advice to our core market of Calgary and Red Deer.  Yes, another way to spread the great news of Bulletproof InfoTech to the communities that we serve.

My question to the majority of my peers is this.  What are you doing to be creative around your business marketing?  Are you stretching your comfort zone, are you trying new things.  I often reflect back on Jim Estill’s comments to me.  “You gotta just try it but keep in mind fail often, fail fast and fail cheap”.

Always be inviting

Another savvy marketing tip is to always be inviting.  Inviting people to things that your business does.  A lunch and learn, a business seminar, an industry event – always be inviting those you serve to events you host, you sponsor or would be of value to their business.  Always invite, always be inviting and always be sharing.

Seize the opportunity to be different, to create a lasting memory and to do something to impress and win the hearts of those around you.

The opportunity to find happiness dances within every moment, beats within every heart, and grooves within every occurrence, situation, and event. Yet, it’s amazing how many lifetimes it usually takes for someone to “get down on it” and pump up the volume.

Feel it?

I think truly understanding the difference between marketing and sales (don’t most bundle them?) is the key to understanding why marketing is important.

Most small business owners got into business because they were good at something or wanted to do something different. Suddenly you have a lot of disciplines to master. We just hit 9 years in business and still every day brings learning.

BTW, I am always amazed how you can fit so much activitiy into your day and still spend time with family.
