This is a posting for the archives
This blog post I am going to put in the time capsule (OK, my Microsoft Outlook Calendar) and revisit in 5 years to see how much has changed. I snapped this picture on my Blackberry Bold (I doubt I will be using this phone in 5 years) and uploaded it to Facebook (Maybe Facebook will be gone as well).
Hello from the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. Friday and Saturday are important days as the board of HTG gets together to strategize on our direction to take this leading group of information technology professionals to new and wonderful places.
The only thing constant in life is change
How does IT look in your business? Are you using the same tools you did 5 years ago? I am still using a Windows laptop, however not the same laptop and soon – Sunday, I will be running Windows 7 RC1. Talk about change, and you know something change is good. I hate sitting still, maybe it is my MADHD (Marketers Attention Deficit and Hyper-Activity Disorder) kicking in,but I actually feel pretty comfortable with constant change.
How do you adapt to change? Are you the type of person who wishes we were still on Windows 95 and NT 4.0 Servers? Or even worse Windows XP and Windows 2003 Servers? Change must occur and we need to adapt, everyday. Why? Easy, there are guys out there like me to love it and we are not afraid to try new things and even better talk about it to the businesses that we take care of. Change is good, let me repeat that one more time.
What are you going to be using 5 years for now in your business? Is SMS text messaging going to replace email? Will you have less IT systems in your office and more sitting in a data centre downtown? What about mobility? How is the Internet going to impact your business next?
Will you business rely on technologies that have yet to be invented? Absolutely! Are you ready for it?
