Hello from high above the skies of the United States
Well at least 38,000 feet above the Carolinas, Georgia and wherever else…
Here is my request to those of you who faithfully follow my blog. My request is very straightforward, very simple and yet very few people are doing it. Are you ready? Maybe if a few more paragraphs. Arlin Sorensen, who some of you know is a mentor of mine, someone I respect, someone that I want to be like and someone who every time I have an opportunity try to be in the company of was also an inspiration for this posted…keep reading!
Last fall when we attended the ConnectWise conference is Orlando, the topic of respecting those around you was front and centre in our go-giver breakout session. Respecting our vendors, respecting our partners, respecting our employees and anyone we come in contact with. This is something I struggled with for a very long time and even today the odd bit of the old me wants to jump out, however I know better now.
Back to my topic, since I do suffer from ADD and get off topic every once in a while and do need the odd reminder to get back into focus.
My request comes from the book I am reading by Frances Cole Jones entitled “How to Wow“, some good stuff in this book and also ties into what Arlin and the rest of shared at the ConnectWise Conference. It is so easy – the people at Calgary Entrepreneurs know this as well, but very few of us professionals do it. Especially in today’s economy.
My request is this…
When someone goes out of their way to communicate with you. Maybe it is an email message or a telephone call, have the courtesy to call them back or email them back. Even if you have nothing to say. I am working hard at doing this myself!
I told you it would be very easy, so why do some many people not pay the courtesy to another. Here is my example, I get 50 to 100 emails a day, if someone emails me something, if I can’t look at immediately, I reply back anyways and state that I will spend some time on it tonight, tomorrow or next week…you see the expectation is set. I email so many people and it just goes to la-la land. Now Frances tells me in her book to follow up nicely so I try to
Air Canada WOW’ed me!
I am typing this as I fly to Tampa to visit ConnectWise. The first leg of my journey was from Calgary to Toronto on Air Canada. The flight attendants were awesome, courtesy was part of their service, they addressed me by name and they just took care of me. Plus, the hot breakfast was awesome! Now US Airways was another part of my journey from Washington to Tampa. You can see the major difference in the levels of service.
Air Canada wow’ed me and perhaps have won back my business and US Airways just did the minimum to get by.
