This weekend the message of trust was front and centre in my life. From some great discussions with colleagues on trust and reflecting on those that have broken that trust. For some reason this number has been a lot higher in my life this year. At church on Sunday, our discussion was also about trust as we studied Abraham.
So what is it about trust?
In our value statement at IT Matters, trust is also an important ingredient of how we go to market. We have terminated relationships with clients who have stepped over the line when it comes to trust. Again, trust is important. Our clients trust us because we deal with their critical business data and our other values of respect and integrity also come into play as well, however it all starts with trust. So when we are working with our client’s data, they trust that we are going to take care of this very valuable asset.
Like I mentioned, we have decided to walk away from business that didn’t want a relationship with trust at its nucleus. This decision has really played a critical role in improving our workplace, morale has improved and it all starts with trust. Trust that our team is going to look after things to the best of their ability, trust that everyone has each others back, trust that everyone can communicate freely and the list goes on. It all starts with trust.
On a scale of 1 to 10, where you see yourself in being trustworthy and also trusting others?
I can be very open here with you all, I used to believe that the only one I could trust was me. Wow, that was the wrong path to travel, life and success in business is so much more than me and I needed to work on trusting others to do the job, take care of the task and work with our clients. You know what, they do it much better than me.
This is the only way your are going to grow your company, like my posting from Saturday, sometimes you need to get out of the way and let those around you do their jobs, and trust that they will do it to the best of their ability.
