For the past several years I diverted my attention away from the local Calgary market and got too focused on working in the SBSC community, don’t get me wrong, I love the community and everything it stands for. I do remember having this same conversation many years ago with my good buddy Gavin who also runs a IT firm like mine about community involvement. It is great to be involved and wanting to work in the community, however you need to have a balance.
Calgary is my home and this is where my clients and prospects are, so it is only right that I focus the majority of my efforts on working with entrepreneurs and small business owners right here in Calgary. So this is what I have done, getting back on track with Calgary’s business needs and how IT Matters can assist them win with the right technology. I started a new blog over the weekend to support the Calgary Entrepreneur Meetup Group at http://www.calgaryentrepreneurs.ca. This community involvement is right for our prospecting at IT Matters and it is always more beneficial to support your local community.
I am not like some of great SMB buddies, Erick, Karl, or Matt whose core business is to work in the channel and make money work with IT Professionals. That is why I decided to give away my latest eBook called Connecting the Dots (see tab at the top to get it). I will still carry on with my Small Business IT Radio program at http://www.smallbusinessitradio.com and my involvement with HTG and IAMCP. However, I think that is it. I really need to focus on IT Matters so I can crack itbusiness.ca top 10 VAR’s next year.
Remember, it takes balance in life!
