A great evening with friends

Last night we opened our home to some of my best friends and great people from IT Matters, plus our SWOT team that is in town for our upcoming business SWOT.  Arlin and Nancy from HTS plus Brad Schow from Duluth joined us in our SW Calgary home for a great evening of BBQ (Alberta Style).

It was great to have everyone over, originally we were going to head out to a restaurant for dinner, however it was great to have everyone over at my home for dinner.  Thanks to our friends at the West Springs CO-OP for some awesome Alberta AAA beef, nothing comes close to it.

Today is the start of the IT Matters SWOT.  You maybe asking yourself what is a SWOT?  A SWOT to me is Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats on steroids (Well at least with Arlin it is).  Over the next day and a half we will be digging deep into IT Matters and how we can make IT Matters great once again.  IT Matters is an awesome small business computer support company, however, we need to be great once again and start kicking butt in the Calgary market (in a friendly way).  Every company needs to review itself every once in a while (I recommend out contacts with no emotional tie help) and sharpens its own saw.  Your best knife in your kitchen will get dull after a while and the same happens to business.  We must sharpen our own minds as well as sharpen the mind of our business.  I don’t recommend waiting 7 years, I think this needs to be done every year.

Business needs to remain fresh and constantly re-inventing itself.  Look for new products to sell or new services to offer.  I am reading about this right now in “Ready, Fire, Aim” in a stage two business going from one million to ten million in revenue.  Re-inventing oneself is a critical business and personal growth strategy.  We must continue to grow and learn something new everyday.

I am very pumped about the SWOT with Arlin, Brad and Dan.  I am very excited for IT Matters and the direction that we will come out of this week with.  I recommend openness, this is why I blog, I was to share with everyone, I want to be open with you my friends and readers.  I feel when we are open – great things happen.
