Two Great Days with Dana Epp

Over the past two days I got a real chance to get to know Dana Epp from Scorpion Software.  I have known Dana from a distance over the past several years from many industry conferences like SMB Nation, SMB Summit and he is also a member of the Microsoft MVP family with me.  Over the past 48 hours I really got to understand the important role that Dana plays in our Small Business marketplace and a I have a real appreciation for his efforts.

His product AuthAnvil is a wonderful and a needed solution for securing today’s small business from the threats that exist in doing business remotely in today’s global economy.  Let’s face it, the threats are everywhere and don’t kid yourself, they also come from within your own corporation.  AuthAnvil provides you and your business with a solution that secures web applications, remote web workplace and windows logon processes from unauthorized access and it is also a SOX compliant solution (C-SOX for Canada).

Why is this important to a business today?

In today’s flat world, employees, executives and owners of businesses can and do work from almost anywhere, look at me for example (Phoenix, Starbucks, Airports).  I love to travel and be on the road taking care of business, I also must remain connected to my office in Calgary whenever at all time.  I have to operate securely given the nature of my business or the business of my clients.  AuthAnvil provides me with this opportunity and to do this with confidence that I am taking the neccessary precautions to work in a secure environment.   One thing I learned from Dana  this week is risk migation and not risk avoidance.

How does AuthAnvil do this?

I am not a technical person so I will put it in terms that I understand.  When I logon to my Outlook Web Access (OWA), Terminal Server or Web Applications.  AuthAnvil presents me a screen where I put in my standard username and password from my network plus an additional field that is my PIN plus an eight character one-time password that changes every 30 seconds.  I have looked at solutions from RSA Security in the past and found them pricey and complicated to use.

What I love about AuthAnvil is the price combined with the security that it offers (no one can touch it).  For $125 per token I can operate my computer network in a highly secure environment and know when anyone logs in and accesses the system.  RSA and other vendors can’t even come close to this price point and simplicity for doing business, especially for small business.

My firm IT Matters is now a reseller for AuthAnvil and the other solutions offered by Scorpion Software.  If you interested in learning more about this solution, I welcome you to contact me at anytime via email at stuart@stuartcrawford.com or by phone at 403.710.4357.

Don’t get caught without the right security for your network!
