We are definitely in our coldest snap of the winter season. The temperature with the wild chill in Calgary yesterday was -54F, now that is cold. Cold enough that many people refused to go to work yesterday. I am not sure how this posting will go this morning. So I am just going to start writing. As of right now I haven’t even put a title to it.
What stops you?
Cold, snow or YOU!
Are you using the weather as an excuse not to go after the tasks of the day, sure with technology we can stay in the comforts of our homes and get things done. I did it yesterday for the morning until my Southern Alberta Microsoft User Group meeting at the Calgary Coast Plaza Hotel. I couldn’t use the excuse that it was cold out since I was the organizer of the meeting, I needed to be there.
Leaders in our community show up! Are you a leader in your community? My good friend Jeff Anderson who runs Bulletproof Networks in Red Deer is a leader. Why? Simple, he shows up! He braved the cold weather and questionable driving conditions to show up for our meeting yesterday. He could have made an excuse that it was to cold to make the 125 km drive from Red Deer to Calgary yesterday, however, he didn’t. He showed up!
I reflect back on the Windows Vista and Exchange Server 2007 launch event in Edmonton last year. I had to have been the worse day to be driving the QEII to Edmonton, you couldn’t see more than 50m in front of you. It was an important day to be in Edmonton, all of the leaders at Microsoft Canada that I look up to and want to network with were going to be there and I needed to be there as a leader in my business.
The point I am attempting to make here is leaders show up, successful people in life show up…those who struggle work hard at finding an excuse not to show up, they spend just as much energy to come up with an excuse not to do something rather just doing it.
Are you a leader?
Ask yourself this…do you just do it or do you work hard at finding an excuse not to do things.
Be honest with yourself!

Question – I know that showing up is 90% of the game. But what about over-extending oneself? No on can physically be in two places at one time, so an ispirational e-mail on prioritizing would be a big help!
