My business coach Andrew Barber-Starkey is always reminding us about the importance of cleanups and completions and I really never felt the power of it until yesterday. Yesterday was a day for just getting things done around the house that I have been putting off. Some of these included getting my expenses done for You Factor, paying some bills, and organizing my desk. I also went out to the local Staples and invested in a shredder for the home office. I had these boxes (3) full of old credit card bills, correspondence and other items that I just couldn’t through out in the trash. It was refreshing to free up that space in the office once again.
During my cleaning up, I stumbled upon some audio books that I had no idea I owned. One was by Jack Canfield and Marc Victor Hansen called the Aladdin Factor. I started to listen to a little bit of it yesterday when I went to the gym to workout. I listen to audio books and podcasts when I work out instead of music. Plus, in my new 300C I can load up a whole audio book in the CD changer and really get into it. I remember a saying when I was in FHTM Canada from our regional manager in Red Deer.
“You are who you are because of the books you read and tapes you listen to”
I don’t like to watch TV, I really only have a couple of shows that I like to watch. I just feel that TV numbs your senses and wastes a whole bunch of your time. Weekly, I will be talking to someone and they ask “Stuart, I have no ideas how you squeeze everything in?” Simple answer, I don’t waste time watching TV and playing video games, I spend my time doing highly productive things in my businesses and around the house (like cleanups and completions). Plus at IT Matters I have an awesome receptionist who helps big time.
OK, so where am I going with this today?
What messes to you have in your life that you need to clean up? Do you have room in your closet for new clothes? Can you see the top of your desk? What do you need to shred? On a side not, I love shredding things…it means that it is gone for good.
I would also like to share this wonderful recording with you from Earl Nightingale, it is called the Strangest Secret, it is totally awesome, well worth the time to listen to the 30 minute message. I recommend you download it and put it on your IPOD.
